Dad's throat, and religious discussion
Jul. 21st, 2005 11:51 pmMy father's had a sore throat for several months, and they just did surgery to remove one of his tonsils and its attendant growth. Tests on the growth will arrive in a week or two, but for the moment potato soup seems to be the only thing he can swallow.
In other news, I finally got something cleared up that I've been carrying around for nigh on seventeen years. I'd been under the distinct impression that my parents blamed my wife for my agnosticism, because I didn't put up any red flags to them about it around age eleven, when I was losing my faith. We had the "I'm not Christian" discussion the same night we had the "I'm engaged, dammit" fight in the middle of a TGI Friday's in 1990. So tonight, my mother tells me they've never been much concerned about *when* I lost my faith, just quite concerned that I lost it at all.
And I've been holding their occasional animosity towards Rachal against them for too long, and for the wrong reasons.
Glad Mom and I finally had that talk; it was more than overdue.
