Rachal had surgery at the beginning of last week, to put in another shunt. The new one vents excess spinal fluid from a point just inside the top of her skull to an egress in her abdomen. She was sent home on the second day after the operation, and has generally been less motion-restricted and sore than when the previous model of shunt was installed (twice) last year, the one that tapped fluid from the base of her spine.

She's sporting close-cropped hair, for which I bought her a hat that she likes, and she's got a horseshoe-shaped incision healing on the top-right portion of her scalp. Her vision improved almost immediately after the surgery, and her headaches have been less frequent and less severe over the last week. This new shunt's flow rate can be modified with a magnetic device, without cutting into her again, and she seems very pleased with it.

In other news, I may have fallen into my ideal job. My new boss doesn't mind if I take the company laptop home, which means I can be found on many evenings sitting in front of the TV with Rachal snuggled up to one side of me, remotely logged into my office machine (at a discounted rate: I ain't gonna charge my boss for a full hour-per-hour if I'm multi-tasking like that. But if I'm sitting in front of the computer during the times I'd otherwise be on the road to the office, I figure a lot of it comes out in the wash).

Also, New Boss seems much less ...excitable than Old Boss, with the added bonus that the tasks set by New Boss don't require violations of the laws of physics to accomplish. All-in-all, this promises to be a good year... so long as we stay in business :>
