Live concert! Film at eleven...
Jul. 25th, 2004 08:30 pmSarah McLachlan puts on a good show, for anyone interested in catching her on tour ...but we nearly missed it through foolishness on my part.
Won tickets to see her a couple of weeks ago, and was told at the time that the concert was on Tuesday, the 27th. So I picked up the envelope, opened it far enough to check where our seats were, and left it on our desk. The radio station called me on Wednesday, thinking (mistakenly) that I hadn't picked up the tickets yet, but they got me thinking -- had I seen one ticket, or two? When I opened the envelope to check, I discovered that the concert was on Thursday, the 22nd! So we made it after all, and had a wonderful time, and got to check out the American Airlines Center, which is quite a spiffy venue.
Sarah was in excellent voice -- she sounded as good as her records, even after singing for a couple of hours. And she seems to quite enjoy the act of performing, especially in front of as giving an audience as Dallas usually provides (where a standing ovation doesn't mean "That's the best show I've seen all year!" -- it means, "Oh, I guess the concert's over...")
It was interesting to watch the difference between a good opening act with not so much experience ( http://www.butterflyboucher.com/ ), and another musician of quality who's been doing this for about fifteen years. Sarah knew how to vary the distance between her and the microphone so she didn't overload the sound system, her stories had a point to them, and she and her band knew how to pace things. I guess "polished" is the word I'm looking for.
Rachal said this was better than either of the Tori Amos concerts she's been to, although I'll be happy if I get the chance to make that comparison myself :>
