More good stuff from New Owner. Our store had a profitable month, and he'd told us a while back that he had something planned for Friday, Oct. 7th, but wouldn't tell us what it was.

So yesterday during the morning meeting, he told us he'd be providing us each with envelopes during the course of the day. Inside the envelope would be instructions which would require us to *stay on the clock* and vacate the premises for an hour. One of my co-workers got a gift certificate to a video-game store, another a card to Wal*Mart. Since I'd mentioned needing a haircut, I got a certificate to Supercuts ...and was also told that a hundred-dollar debt to the boss was forgiven. (He'd written me a personal check to help cover some of our new health insurance).

My being impressed has less to do with the money (although my loyalty can be bought), and more to do with the thoughtfulness. New Owner and his partner coulda just thrown us some bonus cash, but they took the trouble to go shopping for us, and New Owner helped cover the workload as needed during the day. I mentioned to him that Monday might be better suited for us to be short-handed -- but he said he wanted to make a point of doing this on Friday, when every other employer was being frantic.

I am starting to have the impression that during his own previous jobs, this guy made a laundry list of grievances that he never wanted to inflict on his employees ...should he ever become the boss. And he's said flat-out that he wants to work at a place he looks forward to in the morning. This would seem to involve pleasing his employees :>
