Man, this is like coming up with a hundred punchlines, and letting the audience reconstruct the stories. But here goes...

100 THINGS ABOUT ME (1-50):

1) I am the hairiest person I know personally, and probably in the top ten hairiest people I've ever seen in my life.

2) I never had a big throw-down fight with my folks as a teenager; I waited till I was twenty.

3) I am adopted, but have no real interest in finding my biological parents.

4) I got in my one and only fistfight when I was six. There are a couple of other fights I wish I'd gotten in since then, although I'd almost certainly have lost them.

5) I've only been drunk once.

6) I've had one hundred seven stitches put in my head on different occasions.

7) I am an agnostic.

8) My worst-ever job was as a maintenance man at a fast food restaurant.

9) I am scared of heights.

10) I am an Eagle Scout - and while I'm still pretty pissed at the BSA for their stance regarding homosexuals, I've sent them a letter about it and don't plan to rescind my rank.

11) In addition to loving my parents, I also like them - although I am somewhat less formal around my in-laws than around my folks.

12) I'm grateful to my father for not passing along the vast majority of stress that he was apparently subjected to as a child.

13) My favorite author is Robert A. Heinlein.

14) My favorite book is "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".

15) My favorite trilogy is by John Varley: "Titan", "Wizard", and "Gaea".

16) I wouldn't mind being a professional author or cartoonist, but haven't attempted either career for the same reason: while I think I produce good work, I don't do it in the volumes required to make a living at it.

17) The worst thing I've ever done in my life could possibly have put me behind bars - and no, I won't tell you what it was. But at least it succeeded in knocking me off my moral high horse.

18) I miss playing in marching bands enough that I've only recently started to enjoy watching parades again.

19) I've been backstage at Disneyland several times, and it's easier to get there than you may think.

20) I've marched in two Rose Parades and a Superbowl halftime show.

21) I was on academic probation at college for more semesters in a row than anyone my review board had ever heard of without losing my scholarship, and I'm still not entirely sure how I pulled it off.

22) Due to foolishness on my own part, I twice found out about final exams in college less than three hours before they were held.

23) I love my wife, and like her too, and am looking forward to courting her when she finishes school and we're living together again.

24) I favor legalization of drugs, despite nearly losing people close to me to them.

25) I've seen Barry Manilow live in concert.

26) The first "where-were-you-when" cultural touchstone I remember is the Challenger explosion.

27) I have been in each of the United States except, I think, five.

28) I was born in Washington, D.C., and have lived in six states since then.

29) Not counting the U.S., I have visited ten other countries.

30) My favorite food, when I'm in the mood, is franks and beans with chocolate milk.

31) I was fifteen the first time I kissed a girl.

32) I had a mild case of scoliosis as a child, which seemed to clear up when I stopped carrying all of my schoolbooks at one time.

33) I've mumbled out of one side of my mouth my whole life, and still have to make a conscious effort to speak up, using all the muscles on both sides.

34) I put a lot of effort as a kid into learning how to raise one eyebrow at a time.

35) I own a unicycle, and learned to ride it without seriously breaking my ass.

36) I used to be able to juggle four balls at a time (two in each hand), and could briefly manage three in one hand.

37) I can play piano and trumpet, although I haven't touched either in years.

38) My wife and I threw rice at our wedding guests as we left our reception.

39) I have seen the Sphinx and the Sistine Chapel with my own eyes.

40) Some perverse part of me enjoys the fact that my full name is unwieldy and difficult to spell.

41) Calling my wife "spoose" is about as saccharine-cute as I get.

42) When physically tickled, I giggle like a nine-year old girl -- so my official position is, I'm Not Ticklish.

43) I ran track and cross-country in high school, after completely failing to successfully pole vault.

44) I used to know how to solve a Rubik's cube.

45) I don't like to dance, although I like watching people dance.

46) I've still only got a vague idea why I used to dress up to attend college classes (by wearing a bathrobe, or a towel with shower cap -- or a three-piece suit and tie).

46) The fastest I've ever run the mile is in five minutes, fifty seconds. My wife was faster when she ran track in high school.

47) During my senior year of high school, my Academic Decathalon team attended the competition dressed to the nines. I had a carnation in my lapel and arrived in my friend's dad's Ferrari. We had lunch catered in. And we went down in flames, but had a wonderful time. I got the only medal, a gold in mathematics.

48) I once attended a Sadie Hawkins dance stag.

49) I attended two senior proms. The one for my girlfriend's school was held on board the Queen Mary, moored next to the Spruce Goose in Long Beach. My friend and I double-dated with two sisters, and we picked them up by playing our trumpets under their window.

50) I'd rather be the bullied than the bully.

I dunno when I'll post the second half of this; I've got to go pack. But I'm willing to elaborate on almost all of the statements above.
