For what it's worth, I think the newest live-action _Transformers_ movie is about as good as the first one ...if you're into that sort of thing, and most of the time I am.

Michael Bay doesn't have a subtle bone in his body ...but he does have a sense of humor, at least.

Random thoughts from the screening follow.

- By analogy with the Spongebob Squarepants gender flap from a while back, we have the question: is it really possible to hang racial stereotypes on mechanical life-forms that are green and red? Answer: yep, I'm afraid it is.

- For those members of the audience uninterested in ogling Megan Fox's ass, we bring you ...John Turturro's ass. One of our finest actors, granted ...but I'd suggest to Mr. Bay that some additional marketing research may have been in order.

- We have a refreshingly long gap in this film wherein Optimus Prime isn't pontificating. Peter Cullen's got quite the voice for it, but some of the lines he has to read here ...yeesh. Michael Bay musta been holding a family member hostage, to produce this cheesy goodness.

- Yep, there's the shout-out to _Species_. And _T3_. And _Pearl Harbor_. And _Armageddon_.

- It almost goes without saying that ILM does the special effects about as well as they can be done. I coulda used some more color coding to tell the white hats from the black hats during the hand-to-hand / Gun Kata, but I think that was more the director's decision than ILM's.

- I wanna pinch Bumblebee's shiny metal cheeks. That is all.
