Alegria!

Last night, we attended the local Cirque du Soleil presentation of Alegria, and were much impressed.

(I was quite surprised that the venue wasn't packed -- the Dr Pepper arena isn't very big to start with, and it looks like they blocked off half the seats for use as Alegria's backstage, so they wouldn't be doing theater-in-the-round. The remaining seats appeared to be only three-quarters full!)

Our seats, being radio loot, were about as far as one could get from the stage ...but I still think I could have hit the performers with a water balloon. Well, maybe a frisbee.

The act that impressed me the most, as far as death-defying stunts go, was the one that had every appearance of a trampoline show, except instead of trampolines the acrobats bounced on flexible planks that I don't think were six inches wide. (The trapeze act was more elaborate, but they at least had a net. The plank-jumpers had nothing to cushion a fall except a hardwood floor, and the knowledge that the act following them consisted a couple of clowns that pantomimed their performance -- including pretending to miss a catch, then squeegeeing their remains up after the splash...)

Anyway, it was wonderful and we had a grand time :>
