So, I nearly blinded myself today. Later, I called a Pizza Hut six hundred miles away and ordered a large mushroom stuffed-crust.

I was getting ready to go play frisbee golf, and reached for the eyedrops, which led to the following internal monologue:

"Hm, this is stinging a bit more than it usually does ... more like burning, actually, and I didn't jab my eyeball or anything ... lemme double-check the bottle with my good eye ... ah, hell, it says EAR DROPS, those have something fizzy in them that I don't really want sloshing around on my pupil -- perhaps I should hop on into the shower and start flushing this out ..."

Fifteen minutes later, after I'd put in the proper eyedrops, and had no apparent damage, I was breathing somewhat easier. Just think of it as my own episode of "Jackass: the Home Game".

As for the pizza...

My wife used to work with a woman named Deb, who recently moved to New Mexico. She has a cable modem, and no land line, because she's happy with her cell phone plan. But her cell phone was recently stolen, and it wasn't till she was talking with me online about wanting food delivered that the penny dropped: she had no way to order it.

I suggested Pizza Hut's online order form -- but it doesn't work in her area, and she's not set up to make phone calls through her computer. So I called them for her, and didn't see fit to mention that I was in Dallas. As I told Deb: "There are people in deviant sexual chat rooms doing less weird things online than we have just done."

Eep! I'm glad the eardrops didn't damage your eye -- that would have been A Bad Thing.

That's cool. I'm intrigued that you were able to get away with it, though, because the Pizza Huts I've dealt with use caller ID and won't deliver except to the location associated with the landline phone number making the call.

I was pleased they took the order as well. I told them that the address I was calling for didn't have a land line, and gave my friend's cell phone # -- which I don't think they would have called back unless there was a problem finding the place. But the pizza got there on time, so all is well.
