Right answer, wrong motivation
May. 13th, 2005 05:25 amWe have two bank accounts with B of A. I dropped Rachal's paycheck off after writing our Dallas account number on the back ...and the teller apparently looked up her name and deposited it straight into our Nashville account, instead.
Which caused us to get dinged for overdrafts, to the tune of ninety dollars.
So I called them to straighten it out, and after being left on hold while the phone lady looked into it, she came back with the following:
"Since you've been such a good customer with us for so long, we can go ahead and refund those charges to your account. Have a nice day!"
I thanked her and hung up, then realized how much her response bugged me -- it was as if she'd said, "Well, since you're a white guy, we can fix your problem."
What should my history as a customer have to do with the likelihood that they'll correct their own error? Maybe she was just trying to pay me a compliment as she signed off, but dayummm....
