"Truth or Lie" answers
Oct. 4th, 2003 08:38 pmI should have included among these statements, "It looks like the Cowboys are actually gonna field a team this year", but I'd have had to wait till later to determine the truth of it. So here are the real answers...
1) I've been to the Great Pyramids.
TRUE. When I was eleven or twelve, my family went on a trip around the Mediterranean. We visited Greece, Italy, and a few other countries from a cruise ship, and saw the Sistine Chapel, the Parthenon, and a bunch of other tourist attractions. I'm glad I wasn't any younger, because I still remember the trip pretty well.
2) When visiting the college I eventually attended, I won a prize for traveling the longest distance to come see them.
TRUE, which kinda boggled my mind at the time. I was only coming from California to Houston, but applied to that college because I knew my folks would be moving to Texas shortly. (And I had a full scholarship :> ).
3) I appeared on the cover of "Sports Illustrated" in 1983.
FALSE. But I thought it was at least feasible that I could have appeared in a crowd scene at that age.
4) I was briefly (if not-quite-officially) married to my current mother-in-law.
TRUE. The priest who married me and Rachal sent our marriage license in with the wrong date. Then when we asked him to resend it, he put my wife's mother's name on it. Third time, we wrote the bloody letter ourselves, and just had him sign it.
5) I once attended a menudo cookoff judged by Vice President George Bush.
TRUE. The marching band I was in had to learn the Vice-President's version of "Hail to the Chief", which I hadn't known existed and couldn't hum today if you held a gun to my head. But the image of G.W. Bush in a Hawaiian shirt is one that will stay with me to my grave.
