Dad's throat, and sister news.
Jul. 31st, 2005 06:06 pmTalked (briefly) to my father about his throat problems. Turns out the doctors didn't remove everything they wanted to, and what they tested was malignant. So he finds out Tuesday whether he'll be having chemo and/or radiation therapy.
He was trying to put a brave face on it for me, and he's got a high probablility for a good recovery. But he's always been prone to cancerous growths, and even if they get all of this one, another one will be along soon, most likely. He was less guarded when talking to my oldest sister, which was probably useful. I told Mom she was welcome to call me, and we could compare notes about taking care of an ill spouse, while Dad and Rachal could commiserate with each other about how stifling it is to be hovered around and harped on while they're sick.
Dunno if this will bring about a reconciliation between him and my middle sister. Dunno which subset of us kids will end up taking care of him and/or Mom when the time comes, even stipulating that that time is not now. Had some of that conversation with my oldest sister this morning, and she observed that although middle sister is closest distancewise, middle sister has four kids and is currently out of favor -- and although I am best temperamentally suited of the three of us to being a caregiver, oldest sister's schedule is the most flexible. So we have options, and are probably getting to the point where we'll be discussing them more seriously.
In other news, middle sister just got her realtor's license, and oldest sister just got engaged. Knowing oldest sister as I do, this latter news boggled my brain -- and hers, too, I guess :>
